Welcome the 111th Congress

The Meso Foundation encourages you to build a relationship with your continuing or newly elected House Representative and ask them to ensure the passing of the strongest possible asbestos ban and a federal commitment to meso research funding. Send the following letter to your House Representative to welcome him or her to or back to Capitol Hill. You can follow this action by calling your district office to request a local meeting to give you the chance to share your meso story.

We, the patients, families, physicians, advocates and researchers of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, would like to welcome you to the 111th Congress.  Mesothelioma (meso) is a vicious cancer that can develop as much as 50 year after exposure to asbestos.  Thousands of Americans die each year of this cancer, while millions more are at risk because of past exposures, and the inevitablity of exposure to asbestos already in place in homes and public and private buildings.  

The Meso Community has worked closely with the Senate and House of Representatives for five years to ensure the strongest possible ban of asbestos and a federal commitment for mesothelioma research funding.  During the 110th Congress, Representative Gene Green presented HR 6903, the Bruce Vento Ban Asbestos and Prevent Mesothelioma Act, with intentions of following up on this legislation early in the 111th Congress.   

I urge you to support this legislation in hopes of preventing more Americans from experiencing the tragic and deadly toll of mesothelioma.  Please join Representative Green in presenting this life-saving legislation to the 111th Congress and encourage your peers to join you in this opportunity to saves lives in your constituency and throughout our nation.
