June Breit and Jocelyn Farrar Award for Outstanding Nursing and Social Work

We are pleased to announce our third annual campaign to choose the recipient of the 2016 June Breit and Jocelyn Farrar Award for Outstanding Nursing and Social Work. This award is named in memory of two courageous women and nursing professionals who battled mesothelioma.

As a member of the Meso Foundation's Board of Directors, June Breit was a strong advocate for raising mesothelioma awareness, and she cherished the meso community. In a blog post that June wrote for the Meso Foundation, she states, "We seek to spread awareness not only to call attention to our own plight, but to shine a light in the darkness so that others who are in need can find the same optimistic path." June's inspiring and positive attitude is reflected in the writings she published on the Meso Foundation's blog: "The Power of Community" and "To Live until We Say Goodbye".

Jocelyn Farrar, DNP, was also a member of the Meso Foundation's Board of Directors and widely known throughout the community for her work on behalf of mesothelioma patients, both raising awareness and critical research funds to help us win the war on meso. You may remember Jocelyn from the annual appeal letter she wrote for the Meso Foundation in 2010. Read the letter here.

With the June Breit and Jocelyn Farrar Award for Outstanding Nursing and Social Work, we wish to honor an individual in the nursing profession or a social worker who exhibits an optimistic, determined, and generous spirit reflective of both June and Jocelyn.

The award will be given to a nurse or social worker who meets the following criteria:

  • • Demonstrates a professional, positive, and caring attitude
  • • Is passionate and goes above and beyond to care for patients and families
  • • Ensures patients and families are informed and included during the care process
  • • Is thoughtful and compassionate in every situation
  • • Makes an impactful difference in the lives of patients and family members

No geographic restrictions apply. We accept nominations from within the United States, as well as anywhere else in the world.

Please Note: Nominations for Mary Hesdorffer, NP, Executive Director of the Meso Foundation, will not be accepted. Mary is an outstanding nurse in the mesothelioma community, but she does not wish to receive this award.
