Meet mesothelioma specialist Dr. Andrew Haas, Director of Clinical Operations in the Section of Interventional Pulmonology and Thoracic Oncology, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.Andrew Haas, MD, PhD is the Director of Clinical Operations in the Section of Interventional Pulmonology and Thoracic Oncology, as well as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Haas specializes in thoracic malignancies, specifically in developing new applications for diagnosis and treatment of thoracic malignancies. He has also worked in advancing the training for a variety of pulmonary and thoracic procedures including flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, balloon bronchoplasty, endobronchial stent placement (metal and silicone), endobronchial brachytherapy, photodynamic therapy, auto-fluorescence bronchoscopy (LIFE), transbronchial needle aspiration/biopsy, bronchoscopic electrosurgery (including argon plasma coagulation), endobronchial ultrasound (radial and convex probe), percutaneous tracheotomy, and pleuroscopy.

Dr. Haas’ recent publications in the field of mesothelioma include:

“Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma: Update on Treatment Options with a Focus on Novel Therapies,” which concluded that new treatments, such as immunotherapy and gene therapy, combined with other current standard therapies, may be a viable option for meso patients in the future.
