Mavis and Ray Nye — U.K. mesothelioma advocates — to receive honorary degrees from the University of Kent in July

Mavis Nye, a mesothelioma warrior and advocate from the United Kingdom, and her husband, Ray, will receive honorary degrees from the University of Kent in July. They are the first married couple to be awarded honorary degrees together from the University.

The Nyes use social media, a blog — A Diary Of A Mesowarrior Living With #Mesothelioma #Asbestos — and the Mavis Nye Foundation to raise awareness of mesothelioma and give hope to other mesothelioma warriors.

“It is an honour — a huge honour — but I don’t do all this work for honours. I just want asbestos awareness and a cure for mesothelioma, so if I’m playing a small part alongside so many activists then I’m fulfilling my part in a larger world.”

The couple will receive their degrees together at a ceremony at Rochester Cathedral on Tuesday, July 9 at 10:30.

The Meso Foundation applauds Mavis and Ray for this wonderful achievement and recognition and thanks them for being tireless mesothelioma advocates.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to eradicate mesothelioma and end this national tragedy. Its programs include the funding of promising and peer-reviewed research, education, support and advocacy. The organization strives to bring together thought-leaders in the field to identify the most direct path to a cure.
