Meet Julie White, RN, BSN, OCN – Meso Foundation’s New Patient Services Director

Julie White

Julie White, RN, OCN is an experienced oncology nurse with 18 years in the field. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is a certified OCN Oncology Nurse with a registered nursing license in North Carolina.

Julie started her career in New York State at a cancer center working as an inpatient nurse, where she provided patient education and teaching regarding post-surgical and wound care.

As a chemotherapy infusion nurse, administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and investigational agents to oncology patients, she worked at two major cancer centers in North Carolina as part of multidisciplinary teams of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, and other specialties involved in caring for oncology patients.

In the last twelve years, Julie focused on oncology clinical research as an Oncology Clinical Research Nurse at both North Carolina cancer centers, educating patients on investigational agents’ side effects and symptom management.

For the past six years, Julie educated physicians, nurses, and research staff on clinical trial procedures and performed clinical audits for the National Cancer Institute to ensure the safe execution of clinical trials.

At the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, Julie will be the first point of contact for patients, caregivers, and the bereaved community. Julie is in close contact with mesothelioma centers and programs across the country and can assist patients at all stages of their diagnosis. Some services provided by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation include:

  • Connecting the patient to an expert physician with experience treating mesothelioma;
  • Connecting the patient to clinical trials;
  • Helping patients understand and manage disease and treatment side effects;
  • Facilitating participation in the Foundation’s Travel Grant program, which provides financial assistance to patients seeking an expert consultation or who wish to enroll in a clinical trial away from home;
  • Enrolling patients and caregivers in the Foundation hosted support groups.

In her role, Julie is the liaison between the medical community and the Foundation, and as such, she also works on broader Foundation-led initiatives meant to improve patient outcomes and quality of life measures.

Julie can be reached by phone at (703) 879-3819 or [email protected].
