International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is the only global organization dedicated to the study of lung cancer. Founded in 1974, the association’s membership includes more than 4,000 lung cancer specialists in over 90 countries. IASLC members work to enhance the understanding of lung cancer among scientists, members of the medical community and the public. IASLC publishes the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, a valuable resource for medical specialists and scientists who focus on the detection, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

One Voice Against Cancer

One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) is a collaboration of national non-profit organizations representing millions of Americans, delivering a unified message to Congress and the White House on the need for increased cancer-related appropriations.

Founded in 1920, the National Health Council (NHC) is the only organization that brings together all segments of the health community to provide a united voice for the more than 133 million people with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers. Made up of more than 100 national health-related organizations and businesses, the NHC’s core membership includes the nation’s leading patient advocacy organizations, which control its governance and policy-making process. Other members include professional and membership associations, nonprofit organizations with an interest in health, and representatives from the pharmaceutical, generic drug, insurance, medical device, and biotechnology industries.

National Comprehensive Cancer Network

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network®(NCCN®), a not-for-profit alliance of 26 of the world’s leading cancer centers devoted to patient care, research, and education, is dedicated to improving the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of cancer care so that patients can live better lives. Through the leadership and expertise of clinical professionals at NCCN Member Institutions, NCCN develops resources that present valuable information to the numerous stakeholders in the health care delivery system. As the arbiter of high-quality cancer care, NCCN promotes the importance of continuous quality improvement and recognizes the significance of creating clinical practice guidelines appropriate for use by patients, clinicians, and other health care decision-makers.

Coalition for Health Funding

The Coalition for Health Funding is the oldest and largest nonprofit alliance working to preserve and strengthen public health investments in the best interest of all Americans. Member Organizations together represent more than 100 million patients, health care providers, public health professionals, and scientists.

American Society of Clinical Oncology

ASCO promotes and provides for lifelong learning for oncology professionals; cancer research; an improved environment for oncology practice; access to quality cancer care; a global network of oncology expertise; and educated and informed patients with cancer.

International Thoracic Oncology Nursing Forum

The International Thoracic Oncology Nursing Forum (ITONF) is an international organization for those who are directly caring for people with lung cancer or mesothelioma in a nursing role. The ITONF is a group of avid nurses with a common focus of improving patient care, health care delivery and outcomes for patients, their families and carers. This network provides an opportunity for debate, education and knowledge transfer throughout the continuum of treatment. This setting also allows Nurses who have extensive experience to mentor those nurses who are new to the arena.

National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the federal government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. The NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is one of 11 agencies that comprise the Department of Health and Human Services. The NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

National Patient Advocate Foundation

The National Patient Advocate Foundation represents the patient’s voice nationwide, particularly those struggling with a chronic, debilitating or life-threatening illness. They support sensible reforms that will expand access to health care for patients and protect them from the often unjust and discriminatory effects of illness.

University of Maryland Medical Center

The University of Maryland Medical Center is a teaching hospital with 757 beds based in Baltimore, Maryland, that provides the full range of health care to people throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.
