Ban Asbestos State by State

How can you help ban asbestos in your state?

We hope you will join us in this effort. There is currently no blueprint for the process, as each state differs in its politics and in the way it legislates itself. For instance, in New Jersey the asbestos ban bill was initiated on the General Assembly side, while Connecticut has just now passed its bill on the Senate side. However, we can learn lessons from those who came before us. If you would like to work on a state ban of asbestos in your state, we can help.

  1. Contact your state elected officials. It may take several phone calls and meetings to get to the right person and to gauge interest. Some states will be more interested than others.
  2. Share the New Jersey bill with your contact. You may even wish to put this person in touch with the official in New Jersey who spearheaded the bill.
  3. Get your friends and family involved! Ask them to call their state elected officials and advocate for a ban.
  4. Contact us at (703) 879-3797 to keep us posted and to make sure that your efforts aren’t being duplicated by others in your area. If multiple advocates in the same state wish to participate, we will want to make sure they work together.
